Meet Kevin. He’s from Minnesota, and he’s been sober since 7.23.22.
Alcohol was his escape. Until it became a trap. What started as a way to numb the pain only dug the hole deeper. He remembers the anxiety, the excuses, the shame. Skipping work, avoiding people, needing a drink just to function.
But now? He shows up even on the days he doesn’t want to. Especially on those days.
He says success is built on those moments. When you don’t feel like doing the work, but you do it anyway. When you show up, even when your mind is screaming not to, that’s when growth happens.
Kevin’s learned to fuel his fight with the hard times. He leans on his sponsor, stays consistent with sober self-care, and takes care of his body and mind. The gym is his outlet now.
His biggest challenge? His own belief system. The stories he used to tell himself, he wasn’t enough, they were judging him, he’d never change, those thoughts took him down rabbit holes that didn’t exist. But sobriety showed him the truth.
He’s not broken. He was just building on the wrong foundation.
He says, “Don’t carry the bricks of your past. They’ll only rebuild the same old mess. Start over. Lay a new foundation.”
Now, Kevin lives with clarity. No more waking up ashamed. No more apologies for the night before.
Sobriety taught him that real strength is feeling everything. Good, bad, beautiful, painful, and knowing he can handle it without reaching for a bottle.
He’s grateful today. For the lessons. For the discipline. For the moments he no longer misses. He nearly lost his family, but today, they’re part of his everyday life. He surrounds himself with them, his sponsor, and his sober network. He gives back now, too, speaking to clients in the same treatment centers he once sat in. And if you’re in Minnesota and need help, he’s got resources here.
He’s building something real now. For himself. For his future. And for anyone watching who still thinks they can’t.

You can.
