Full Story:
“12 years ago, on my birthday, I attempted to take my own life. It’s nothing short of a miracle that I’m still here today. Back then, I was trapped in a haze of medication that dulled every emotion, making life feel grey and meaningless. I was coasting on autopilot, merely existing rather than living.
At the age of 20, I decided to take back control. I quit the meds, committed to my therapy, and surrounded myself with people who love me for who I am. For the first time, I trusted myself to get through this.
Depression makes you feel weak. It whispers, then screams, that you should just slip away unnoticed. For me, this came from multiple genetic conditions that made my life incredibly difficult. I was ashamed and hid away from the world.
Now, I wear my struggles with pride. They have made me strong. The scars I bear tell a story of inner strength and willpower. This battle is a constant one, but I’ve learned to rise every time I fall.
One quote from the Rocky movies, which I absolutely love, has kept me going: ‘It ain’t about how hard you hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’
I’ve been hit pretty damn hard.
And I keep getting up.
Every.
Single.
Time.
I stayed down once, and I committed to never doing that again. No matter the pain, I will always rise again.”
